Freshen POLYWOOD outdoor furniture with mild soap.
Outdoor chairs can collect dust, pollen, and food residue even when they are made from low-maintenance material. For genuine POLYWOOD lumber furniture, the manufacturer provides a simple soap-and-water cleaning method. Confirm the furniture brand and material first; wood, woven seats, cushions, and other finishes may need separate care.
What you’ll need
- Mild dish soap
- Bucket
- Warm water
- Soft washcloth
- Soft-bristle brush
- Garden hose
- Dry vacuum with a gentle attachment, if suitable
Take it step by step
- Choose a stable outdoor spot with room to work and safe drainage. Remove cushions and loose accessories, keeping their cleaning instructions separate.
- Inspect the furniture before washing. Remove loose dirt with a suitable vacuum attachment or gentle dry wipe so grit is not rubbed across the surface.
- Mix mild dish soap and warm water in a bucket. For this routine cleanup, use only the simple soap solution and follow the soap label.
- Wipe the lumber surfaces with a soapy washcloth and allow a few minutes for the soil to soften. Use a soft-bristle brush for the textured areas and corners.
- Rinse thoroughly with clean water. Check underneath the seat and along horizontal surfaces where soap can remain, while avoiding unnecessary soaking of nearby materials.
- Allow the furniture to air-dry fully. Return cushions only after both the furniture and cushions are dry, and clear any wet walking areas before normal use.
Clean small spills promptly and keep cushions off the chair during washing. Handling the frame and fabric as separate care tasks makes the job easier to manage.
When to ask for help
Stop using furniture that has cracked parts, sharp hardware, loose joints, or a wobble. Ask the manufacturer about repairs or replacement parts before sitting on it again; surface cleaning will not restore its strength.
